Baseballs or Ankles?

Are those my ankles or just baseballs attached to my feet? When I came home the other day I swear I had the biggest Fred Flintstone feet and ankles I have ever seen!

Caitlin is 23 Weeks Old!

How big is Caitlin?
She has finally reached a weight of 1 pound and is approximately 10 inches long.
(But we already know Caitlin weighs more than 1 pound thanks to our last ultrasound at 20 Weeks!)

What is happening with Caitlin?
She is continuing to gain weight, but the next several weeks will be when she really begins to fill out. Lanugo, or the fine hair that covers Caitlin's body, may darken at this point allowing it to be seen on an ultrasound. She is also beginning to look more like she will at birth.

Caitlin works on Carmie's Schedule

This morning I found out that Caitlin isn't on Mommy's schedule - she is on Carmie's (my dachshund) schedule. This morning Carmie woke up at 4:00AM for her middle of the night walk. That is also when Caitlin woke up to roll around in my tummy! So apparently Caitlin and Carmie are already very in tune with each other!

Caitlin is 22 Weeks!

How big is Caitlin?
She is approximately 9 inches long and weighs a whole 14 ounces. (But we already know Caitlin weighs more than 1 pound thanks to our last ultrasound!)

What is happening with Caitlin?
Caitlin has pretty much taken on the form of a newborn baby, but is incredibly small. Much development will continue to occur over the next 18 weeks. Her skin appears wrinkly, but this is because she has not yet gained enough weight to fill the skin out. The lips are becoming more distinct. The eyes have completely formed, but the iris (the colored portion of the eye) still lacks pigment. The eyelids and eyebrows are in place, and the pancreas is continuing to mature.

Caitlin is making Mommy tired!

This morning when I got up I was so tired that I sprayed perfume on my hair instead of hairspray! Then when I picked Carmie up she sniffed me and gave a funny face - I think I oversprayed just a bit! Hmmm

Caitlin is 21 Weeks Old!

How big is Caitlin?
Caitlin has grown to 8 ½ inches long and weighs 12 ounces. {NOTE: This is the average weight for this time from the American Pregnancy Association - but the doctor said Caitlin weighs in at 1 pound right now and is measuring 1 week ahead of schedule!}

What is happening with Caitlin?
Caitlin's eyelids have finished forming this week, and she is very busy moving around and swallowing amniotic fluid. As Caitlin swallows amniotic fluid, her digestive tract is continuing to mature. Caitlin is also receiving some of the caloric intake from the amniotic fluid. Caitlin's vagina has fully formed but will continue to develop until her birth.

Cute Drawing From Our Neighbor

Cute Drawing
Originally uploaded by UCFGEEKS.
When we visited our neighbors on Thursday to tell them that we are having a girl, one of their daughters drew this picture for Kathy. On our way out, she followed us out and said "Good luck with your baby!".

Woman's Instinct?

Wednesday night before I went to bed I started to have this overwhelming sense that we were definately having a girl. Eric was the only one I told that - because I thought - boy if I am wrong I will look really stupid! But this feeling that we were definately having a girl wouldn't go away - and I was right! Woman's intution or instinct - fact or fiction- I don't know?! But it worked for me!

Caitlin's 1st Photos from proud Mom

We're having a girl! Yippee! Yesterday was such an adrenaline rush finding out that we are having a HEALTHY baby GIRL! I am still on cloud nine. Like any other parent we couldn't wait to share our first baby portraits! Eric posted a few on the blog below, but here is a link to all of the portraits on Flickr.

Eric is really excited too - and in true form blogged the announcement below from his cell phone in the waiting room at the doctor's office - too cute!

So now we will transition from calling the baby "Peanut" to "Caitlin". I think the nickname "Peanut" will always have a special place in our hearts though!

Also, I'll post a recap of the email for those who didn't get it...

Yesterday we had our 20 week ultrasound. They examined all of thebaby's organs (brain, heart, stomach, liver, spine, etc.) andeverything looks great! The baby is measuring at 1 pound (about 1week ahead of schedule).

The ultrasound tech was really cute and wrote funny captions on thephotos - like "my footprint", "think pink", etc.

Have a great Easter Weekend everyone! I know this is one Easter thatwe feel truly blessed!

New Photos of Caitlin

Our precious little baby now has a name: Caitlin AnnaBeth Brosch. The ultrasounds from today's appointment showed Caitlin to be a healthy little 1 pound baby girl. Here are some of the highlights:

Someone Is Shy

I have always been a fan of the song "In My Daughter's Eyes" by Martina McBride but now it has an extra special meaning.

Peanut is 20 Weeks Old!

How big is Peanut?
Up until this point Peanut's length was measured from the crown of their head to the bottom of their rear end. Now your Peanut's length is measured from crown to heel. Peanut is about 8 inches long and weighs 9 ounces.

What is happening with Peanut? Peanut is covered in a white substance called vernix caseosa. This substance helps protect Peanut's skin from becoming irritated while submersed in amniotic fluid, and it also aids Peanut's passage through the birth canal during labor. Peanut is beginning to produce meconium, a dark green or black sticky substance that constitutes Peanut's first messy diaper. A few babies pass meconium while in the uterus or during labor. Meconium consists of cell loss, amniotic fluid that has been swallowed, and digestive secretions.
