Teach a Kid to Program / Wired How To's

Teach a Kid to Program / Wired How To's

This is a really awesome article on getting young kids excited about programming. The author of the Geek Dad blog is soliciting suggestions for programming languages to start a 5 year old on! Let's see, what would Caitlin like more, PERL or Visual C++?

To a lot of people this might seem silly, but as familiar as the average 5 year old is with computers now, it is becoming more and more realistic. Imagine how mainstream computers will be in 2012 when Caitlin turns 5.

Caitlin LOVES Harry Potter!

So yesterday was the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - the seventh and final book of the series. So first thing in the morning I trotted off to Wal-mart to get my copy and begin my reading bonanza. I read for most of the day with breaks for food and nap (hey I'm 36 weeks pregnant here - I deserve some break!). Caitlin was rolling around in my stomach the entire time I was reading! It was the most active she has EVER been. Every five minutes I could feel her rolling and punching and kicking. Clearly Caitlin is a big Harry Potter fan - just like her Mom :)

My Mom, Aunt, and Grandmother are working on assembling this memory blanket which is comprised of fabric squares decorated by our family and friends. I have a empty wall in the nursery awaiting its arrival. I got to see the squares for the first time at the shower and they are adorable! What a great keepsake for us and Caitlin!

Visiting Winnie Palmer Hospital

Winnie Palmer Hospital Lobby
Originally uploaded by UCFGEEKS
Kathy and I took a tour of Winnie Palmer hospital today. The hospital is huge. The tour guide told us that they deliver a baby every 23 minutes!! They have very nice amenities including the option to get gourmet meals, upgraded sheets, bath robes, etc. Needless to say we won't be upgrading too much. There's only one thing we're looking forward to getting there!

Already Teasing Her Parents

Caitlin gave us a bit of a scare yesterday: Kathy has grown quite accustomed to her being very active, but yesterday she was not moving much at all. The typical tricks (get a drink, lie down) didn't seem to work. Concerned that something may be wrong, we went to the ER. Long story short, everything is fine. However, the nurses had a heck of a time getting a heartbeat because (after arriving at the hospital, of course) she was all over the place.

So, even from the womb Caitlin is teasing her parents! We'll have to give her a stern talking to :)
