31 Weeks!

How big is Caitlin?
Caitlin is continuing to grow and has reached 15 inches in length and weighs anywhere from 3 ½ to 4 pounds.

What is happening with Caitlin?
She is continuing to develop a layer of fat under her skin. This is in preparation for her arrival into the world and gives the baby more of a newborn appearance. During the next several weeks Caitlin will really begin to put on the weight. Remember the average size of a newborn is about 7 ½ pounds and 19 to 21 inches long.

Caitlin 4D Ulstrasound

We had our 4D Ultrasound today.

You can view a video of Caitlin Yawning and photos of the ultrasound.

Too much fun!

Getting Ready for Caitlin

Eric finished painting the nursery last night. Last week I ordered the crib and also bought the stroller, car seat, pack and play (portable crib/playpen), and swing. I put together the stroller and the swing!

Now we can start setting up Caitlin's room!

30 Weeks!

How big is Caitlin?
Caitlin has now grown to be 14 ¾ inches long and weighs about 3 pounds.

What is happening with Caitlin?
As Caitlin continues to grow, she takes up a larger portion of my uterus. Her eyes are becoming more mature, and now she can tell the difference between light and dark. Babies at 30 weeks can even follow a light source with their eyes. Once Caitlin is born, she will spend a great deal of time with her eyes closed. This is completely normal. Newborns only have the ability to focus on objects a few inches from their face. While “normal” adult vision is 20/20, a newborn’s vision is 20/400.

Childcare Class

We had our first childcare class tonight at Florida Hospital. It was quite informative.

  • A presentation on some of the questions you may have about your baby's appearance shortly after birth (various marks, discolorations, coverings, etc)
  • A question and answer with Lake County Sheriff's Office and Lake/Sumter EMS concerning child seat safety.
  • A video presentation on childbirth.
More classes to come.

She's Shy Already

Well, we tried for a 3-D ultrasound today but Caitlin is already proving to by shy :) The whole time she was turned over on her side with her arm over her face. Luckily, the doctor's office gives us 2 tries so we'll be back again next week to see if we can get a better view.

Maybe next time I'll make sure Kathy has a spicy Mexican food lunch and lots of sugary soda before the appointment. We'll get Caitlin hyper for sure!!

29 Weeks!

How big is Caitlin?
According to the ultrasound she weighs almost 3 lbs (2lbs 14oz to be exact)!

What is happening with Caitlin?
She is rapidly growing at this point. Obviously Caitlin is continuing to gain weight, and her head is also growing. This is due to the rapid brain development that began in week 28. Muscles and lungs are also continuing to develop and mature.

Baby Update

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on the Brosch household!

This week I am 28 weeks and doing great. Caitlin is weighing in at almost 3 lbs according to the ultrasound calculations. She has been busy punching and kicking me in the stomach (sometimes at midnight - she is preparing me for those upcoming midnight feedings I think). She is still moving around so much that the doctor literally has to "chase down" her heartbeat with the doppler because she will not stay still! Too much fun!

We have tentatively scheduled the cesarean for August 13. I 'll let you know more details when I know more!

We have cleared out the baby's room and are getting ready to paint. Eric will be painting the room a light yellow while I am in South Florida this weekend and part of next week. I am down visiting my parents and helping Carla (Eric's sister) who has a three week old at home. I am hoping to give Carla some much needed help and also get
a little practice in on caring for a newborn!

I am officially done with work - with the exception of three days in June that I will come in to help the new person get
transitioned in. I'll definately miss the people and the work - but boy have I been tired lately!
